Planned for December 2026: In-person individual and couples therapy in Fairfax, VA 22030 (pending final office arrangements). Virtual therapy continues for clients in Virginia, Maryland, and Florida. Request a consultation.

You can love your friends and dread another pregnancy announcement.

You congratulate her, smile for the photo, and then cry in the car. You’re not a bad friend. You’re trying to hold your own grief while everyone else celebrates. And when someone leaves you off the baby-shower invitation to 'protect' you, that hurts too. You deserve the choice to say yes or no.

And then there’s the treatment itself: egg counts, embryo updates, decisions about another cycle, and appointments where you leave with questions you forgot to ask. Therapy gives you room to talk honestly, prepare those questions, and make choices without being pushed toward any one family-building path.

Therapy doesn't fix infertility. But it can give you a space to process what you're carrying, protect your relationship, and move through this without losing yourself.

What clients often name first

The emotional weight of infertility is real, relentless, and often invisible to everyone outside the experience. It deserves the same careful attention as the medical side of treatment.

  • Anxiety and hypervigilance during and between treatment cycles
  • Grief and disenfranchised loss after miscarriage, failed transfers, or a difficult diagnosis
  • Relationship strain — partners who grieve differently, intimacy affected by treatment
  • Isolation from friends and family who don't understand the experience
  • Decision fatigue around next steps, additional treatment, or changing course
  • Grief after choosing to stop treatment or pursue other paths to parenthood

Support for every stage of the fertility journey.

Individual Therapy

Your experience, fully seen

One-on-one support through IVF, IUI, miscarriage, pregnancy loss, diagnosis, and the decisions no one prepares you for. Sessions are virtual, flexible, and built around where you are in your cycle and your life.

Couples Support

Grief together, not in parallel

Infertility strains even the strongest partnerships. Couples therapy helps you understand each other's responses, reconnect, and grieve together — rather than alongside each other in silence.

Pregnancy Loss

The grief that deserves real space

Miscarriage, stillbirth, failed transfers, and termination for medical reasons are losses — full losses — even when the world doesn't treat them that way. Therapy offers space to grieve without having to justify the depth of what you've lost.

Therapy during treatment,
not just after.

You may be trying to decide whether you can face another cycle. Maybe you keep replaying every number from the last retrieval, or you're afraid that taking a break means giving up. We can talk through the fear, the exhaustion, the financial pressure, and the questions you want to bring back to your fertility team. You don't have to decide everything today.

Sessions are available virtually across Virginia, Maryland, and Florida, with scheduling that accommodates retrieval timelines, transfer windows, and everything in between.

IVF & IUI

Managing the anxiety of each cycle, the waiting, the results, and what comes next — whether that's another round, a different path, or something else entirely.

Difficult diagnoses

Processing a diagnosis — diminished ovarian reserve, poor sperm parameters, recurrent loss — that changes what you thought your path looked like.

Decision-making support

Thinking through donor eggs or sperm, surrogacy, embryo adoption, or choosing to stop treatment. These are complex decisions that benefit from a structured, emotionally informed space.

A practical, warm approach — not just sitting with feelings.

You can show up angry, exhausted, jealous, or completely unsure what to say. I won't tell you to 'just relax.' We'll make room for the grief and work on real-life things: asking your clinic the questions you forgot, telling family you don't want another update request, and finding ways to connect with your partner that have nothing to do with treatment.

I’m direct, collaborative and practical. We’ll find small steps that help you care for yourself and reconnect with your partner, without pretending therapy can promise a pregnancy or make the uncertainty disappear.

  1. Free 15–30-minute consultation

We talk about what you're navigating and whether this is a good fit. No pressure, no intake paperwork at this stage.

  2. Initial sessions — your full picture

Early sessions focus on your history, your current situation, and what you actually need. Not a template intake process.

  3. Ongoing work, built around your cycle

Session frequency adapts to where you are in treatment. Some clients need weekly support; others prefer biweekly check-ins between cycles.

  4. Support through transitions

Whether you're continuing treatment, grieving a loss, or deciding to step back — therapy continues to meet you where you are.

I'm Julie Isaacs, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 28+ years of experience in clinical and behavioral health settings. Reproductive mental health is a specialty area of my practice — I work with clients at every stage of the fertility journey, from the early months of trying to conceive through the end of treatment and into whatever comes next.

My approach is direct and practical. I help you understand what's driving the anxiety, the grief, and the relational strain — and build real strategies for managing it. I don't believe in therapy that stays abstract.

I also have specialized experience in perinatal and postpartum mental health, chronic illness, and major life transitions — which frequently intersect with the fertility journey in ways that matter clinically.

Inflection Therapy and Consulting is a private-pay practice. For current fees and session details, please visit the Investment section on the homepage. Superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement.

More about Julie

Your treatment results are information. They are not your worth.

Maybe you keep thinking, “I waited too long,” or “My body failed me.” Maybe you’re afraid that if you stop worrying for even a minute, you’re giving up. Infertility wasn’t something you chose. Therapy won’t promise a pregnancy, but it can help you work through self-blame, hold hope and uncertainty together, and make room for yourself outside the next appointment.

Questions About Cancer, Genetics & Fertility Counseling

Can therapy help when cancer treatment may affect my fertility?

Yes. Counseling can help you process grief, uncertainty, relationship concerns, and family-building decisions alongside your oncology and fertility teams.

Do you offer genetic counseling or interpret genetic test results?

No. We provide emotional and decision-making support related to reproductive genetic information. A qualified genetic counselor or medical specialist should explain test results and medical options.

Can I seek support before deciding whether to pursue fertility preservation, donor conception, or adoption?

Yes. Therapy can provide space to explore your values, feelings, relationships, and support systems without directing you toward a particular choice.

Family-Building Counseling: Common Questions

Do you support intended parents using donor eggs, donor sperm, or donor embryos?

Yes. Counseling can help intended parents explore decisions, identity, disclosure, genetic connections, grief, and expectations before or during donor conception.

Do you work with single parents by choice and same-sex couples?

Yes. We welcome single parents by choice, LGBTQ+ individuals, and same-sex couples pursuing fertility treatment, donor conception, surrogacy, or adoption.

Do you provide required psychological evaluations for donors or gestational carriers?

No. Our services described here are psychotherapy and emotional support for intended and prospective parents, not formal donor, gestational carrier, or adoption evaluations.

Where can I attend counseling?

Julie Isaacs, LCSW offers virtual therapy for clients physically located in Virginia, Maryland, and Florida.

What to know before reaching out.

Do I need to be in active fertility treatment to work with you?

No. Clients come to me at every stage — early in the process and still hoping, mid-treatment, after a loss, after stopping treatment, and while navigating what comes next. Wherever you are, there's a place for this work.

My partner and I are grieving very differently. Can couples therapy help?

Yes, and this is one of the most common things couples describe. Partners often process grief and stress in completely different ways — one becomes hypervigilant and research-driven, the other withdraws or tries to stay positive. Neither response is wrong, but they can create real distance. Couples therapy helps you understand each other's responses and find a way to grieve and cope together.

Do you accept insurance?

Inflection Therapy is a private-pay practice. I do not bill insurance directly. I can provide a superbill after each session that you may submit to your insurance carrier for potential out-of-network reimbursement — many PPO plans reimburse a portion of therapy costs. I'm happy to discuss this during your consultation.

Are sessions fully virtual?

Yes, all sessions are conducted via telehealth. I'm licensed to work with clients located in Virginia, Maryland, and Florida. You can join from your home, office, or anywhere private and comfortable.

You don’t have to carry
this alone.

The free 15–30-minute consultation is a conversation — not a commitment. We'll talk about where you are, what you need, and whether working together is a good fit.

How infertility and IVF counseling may help

Therapy is more than having a place to talk. Together, we identify what matters most to you and practice skills you can use in everyday life.

Feel steadier between appointments

Build strategies for the waiting, uncertainty, difficult news, and emotional ups and downs of fertility treatment.

Advocate for yourself with confidence

Prepare questions, communicate with your fertility team, and make room for decisions that reflect your values.

Protect your relationships and identity

Navigate grief, boundaries, and partner differences while reconnecting with parts of life beyond infertility.

How we work: We collaborate on goals, check regularly on what is and is not helping, and adjust our approach as your needs change. Progress might mean recovering more quickly from setbacks, communicating more clearly, or feeling more confident in difficult moments.

These are possible benefits of therapy, not promises of particular results. Your experience and goals are individual.
